Playing with the Carolina Lily block, I thought of the “Resurrection Lilies” in our August garden and decided to depict the celebration of life after death as part of the Mexican Day of the Dead. Digitized embroidery and pieces of silk combined for the smiling sugar skulls. Silver lame coupled with black embroidery threads in lace patterned alphabet letters mimic stamped silver motifs from Mexico. Dancing skeltons, words from an old gospel song, sparkling crystals and colorful rickrack make for an explosion of color and movement within this festival quilt. As I completed the quilt my stepfather passed from this life into the glory of the Everlasting, and I feel confident he is dancing still.

Digitized embroidery, machine quilting, piecing. Hot fix crystals, hand beaded.
